CONTENTS
It is difficut to find the parish registers for Bridgerule. The Devon Record Office holds registers going back to 1702. Genuki states that "According to Peskett a register volume 1561-1701 was lost before 1888, but selected extracts from this are preserved in the Baring-Gould Collection at Plymouth Central Library."
This is where these extracts have come from. Please note, I had problems reading the writing in many cases. Baring-Gould used the abbreviation 'bp' for baptised and 'bu' for buried and they look remarkably similar, as do his abbreviations for April and August. I cannot guarantee I have copied them correctly.
There are also large time gaps in the entries. Baring-Gould has indicated these in his notebooks using the tem 'hiatus'. He has also recorded where pages of the original register have been 'torn out' or were 'much torn'. These are as follows:
Hiatus from 1598 to 1607; 1607 to 1610; 1619 to 1624; 1653 to 1659; 1664 to 1665; 1685. 1643 and 1648 are torn out and 1649 much torn.
